First of all that’s just the game of poker, bad beats will and do happen all of the time so get used to it. But good player first of all don’t usually go all in with just A-10, and if they do go all in with a hand like that they make sure that they have more chips then the other guy does. A great line in Phil Gordon’s little green book, is ” i can never go broke if i have the other guy covered. Most good players will not get there chips in pre flop unless they are short on chips, they will only get the money in with hands that are already made (the nuts or something close to it) or if they have a monster draw of some kind. Plus you want people to play poor against you like that, since in the long run you will win more then you loss. Now i know that sometimes it can feel like your getting sucked out on every single hand, and sometimes you can have a run where the cards don’t go your way and no matter what you do you can’t seem to win. This does happen even to the best players out there, but if you are a poker player you have to look at things in the long run. I might have a run of bad cards where im down 300-400 dollars, but i know that if i just keep playing poker the right way i will look back in a month and I’ll be back up again.
I would say try being a little more objective about it. Virtually every time I get beat with AA (or another group 1/2 starting hand) I get all emotional and say "Man, i never win with this hand!" Then I go check my Poker Office stats (Poker Office is a piece of software that keeps track of pretty much everything that goes on during a gaming session) and I look at the times I was dealt AA. Every time I actually check it, I see that I’ve won more than 50% of the time with it, and it has turned me a profit OVERALL. Point being, yeah, it sucks when statistical improbabilities happen, but they are GOING TO HAPPEN. But I’m betting if you’re willing to keep records you’ll see that, as the statistics show, they are going to win MORE often and make you MORE money than not.
All you can do is play the odds. Sooner or later……..
you have to go with your gut. and know the chances, or something close to what the odds are gunna be. Also don’t be too predictable. mix it up a bit. And good luck with texas holdem poker.
Stop playing on-line poker.
It’s a scam., there are no regulations, no one is looking out for you.
The poker gods just dont like you.
What did u do man???
Quit going all-in pre-flop!!!
In this game, you’re never really as far ahead as you think… especially with five cards coming. AA is only a 7-1 favorite against 2-7 offsuit. AK is only a 1.6-1 favorite over 56 offsuit.
Think of it this way: Have you ever started drooling, perhaps even called all-in, after flopping a nut flush draw? Sure you have. Most of us have. But even there, your chances of it hitting are only 1 in 3… i.e. your chances of hitting the flush are actually smaller than the odds of 65 beating AK! Even 3-5 offsuit vs. AK, mathematically speaking, offers better odds than a flush draw hitting (with two cards coming). So next time you call on a flush draw and hit it, know that YOU just "sucked out" every bit as big on someone else.
Plus, online, the play is much faster so you’ll see far more hands than you will live. That also means you’ll take far more bad beats online simply because of the number of hands you’re seeing.
Believe me, it’s not just online. I’ve seen some pretty awful beats live. Sometimes I wonder if people I hear complaining about the alleged disproportionate number of bad beats that occur online have ever spent more than a few hours at a live casino poker table.
NOTE: While writing this, I just called some idiot all-in pre-flop w/ KK. Another player in the hand also called. First guy had AJ. Second guy had JJ. My hand finished in third place. It happens, man. (Thank God I had them both well covered!)
EDIT: Not ten minutes after finishing this, I called another idiot’s all-in bet. She had A9. I had TT. Flop was AA6. Turn was a ten! I tell you, buddy, it happens.
