A) How can Las Vegas have such control of games? Let’s say the Over Under was 40 points. How do odds makers not only determine that but how are they so accurate?
B) How are the spreads translated through the players’ eyes. They seem to go for useless TD’s at the end of games; they also don’t score when it’s needed.
I can see how this happens in college with a botched kick here or a
botched kick there….But how does this happen in the NFL?
I understand money is a part of the equation. But how does the aspect of money get down to the players? Do they bet for or against their own teams when the spread is within reach? A perfect example was last night’s 49er game. O/U is 38. Seahawks scored a useless TD at the end to make the O/U 38. Do players know the O/U is 38?
I am trying to understand some of the basic terminology and concepts of odds when it comes to pro sports teams - such as NFL matchups. My uncle used to say: "I’ll give you the Giants in 10". Also: over/under, spread, and ATS. What do these mean?
If you were a commisioner of a major sports league (such as the NFL or NBA), would you allow coaches and players from your own league to bet on games if their winnings went exclusively to charity? I thought about this while reading an article on foxsports.com.

I know how the + /- system works in general, but i’m more used to seeing it with numbers in the 100’s (like -200/+105). Could someone explain a game situation to me for a straight up bet based on this weeks odds?
Might be a crazy question but where can I, either online or near me (i’m on Long Island, New York) where I can place sports bets? Like a sports book? I’m a huge NFL and NCAA Football fan and I always watch the games and wish I could bet on a team to win and maybe win some money. Can anyone help me out?
PS: I remember last season looking at some websites to place bets but nothing seemed black and white (win or lose) It was going by a point (+ or -) system that I really didn’t quite understand.
Thanks!
I participate in a NFL Knock Out Pool every year in which you bet on a team to win regardless of score every week and if they loose your out, in the past years, I have not gotten very far and I use online sources such as yahoo sports, espn to see which is the best to win for that week. Is there any tips or advice in going deeper or is it just the luck of the draw? Beting againist the lions last year I would of won it all. lol.
I’m looking for a sports betting website that provides free statistics such as: Teams vs Spread (home/away), Teams vs Spread (opponents), etc. I’m looking specifically at NFL.
I opened an account at an online sports book and deposited 0 to get going. Ok I’m female, and I know little about football, and I was looking at some of the sites I found while using the search engine with the key words "NFL Betting Advice" and "Football Bet help"
Ok, my question (finally I know) They sites I found want like A LOT of money for their "picks", and I wouldn’t mind paying it if I won, but if I lose on their advice then I lose. So is it worth it in your opinions to use these services? or Know of any cheap reliable services? Thanks
I am just wondering what statistics/tendencies to look for when handicapping a football game. Obviously if you have a magic formula you won’t give it to me for free (but you can if you want haha), but what are some things you HAVE to look for when trying to pick a winner against the spread? Thanks! Smart-azz answers are definitely welcome, but hopefully I get some helpful ones too.
Oops sorry…. I meant American football, like NFL and NCAA football
It was a game and i know it was because my cousins no way have 285 million dollars…
You could bet on college football and basketball and NBA and NFL…
It sounded like a cool game
It was a game and it was like a game
not real…
