How do you play poker professionally if your under 21?
I know a kid that is a pro poker player but he is under 21, how is that possible, does he have to play in other countries because their age limit is lower then 21 or how does it work. And how do you pursue a career as a pro poker player if your under 21, like what tournaments would you look for.

For placing your bets, you have to be 18 but to play offline the min age requirement is 21 but there can be some exceptions. There are few states in the US where play at 18. It will be helpful if you make a search online on the legal age to gamble at your own site. However, it would be better to play online as you can bet early which you may not in land based gambling as offered in many states.

Maybe he plays in Europe where its 18+, online is also 18. But in USA its impossible to play in casinos before 21.
Ok so you wanna be a card player well 1st thing 1st to be pro doesn’t not mean you play in casinos or tournament on tv there are a lot of under ground games all over the US just find a few or start your own…but here the real part you need to know its money management, card sense and reading people and playing attention to every detail
you also need to have record of all the money you win and lost this will come in handy later when you try to apply for loans to bank yes you can get a loan to buy a house by playing cards …and yes you have to play taxes too if you don;t pay taxes you could windup with nothing
consider card playing as a business your self employed and you have to do same thing any self employed person does
oh by the way the people you see playing on big tournament well the pass winner don’t pay for to play since they have sponsors this is how they make there money now like any top player in any game like mike jordan he made his money not on playing but endorsement like nike most pro player own money to some one and are trying to grind a living its not really a great way to make a living trust me i know
You need to work on your poker playing skills to win and win big. For land based poker rooms you can play in those countries only where gambling is legal above the age of 18.For online poker they list their legal gambling age in their website like for Full Tilt it’s 18.
As far as career in concerned, you need to be brilliant enough to win a lot. Play as often as you can and build up your skills. To be the best you must know the game inside and out. You can take help of this website http://www.casinosdiary.com/category/game-strategies/
Besides what everyone else said, there are states in the United States where it is legal to gamble when you are 18. New York is one of those states. There are others.
You can play online, in other countries or on Indian reservations where the legal age is usually 18.
All website be it online casinos or poker rooms state in their ToS that the age requirements in the area that you are playing is applied, so if you’re in a place(state or country) where the minimum age to gamble is 21, then you must be 21 to play online as well and same if 18.
It requires a complete commitment , devotion plus some very good poker skills to be a "good poker player".
http://www.casinoscorner.com/articles/1-general/145-things-to-do-and-not-to-do-when-making-online-gambling-a-career lists some "do’s and don’t s" before starting the career in gambling.I hope this will help.
Tournaments you look should for are WSOP and WPT (top 2 poker tournaments) .
First thing you can do is start playing online. I recommend that you start off playing the $5 or $6 sit n gos to start off depending on what site you play on. I play on Full Tilt mostly and they are $6 but you could play lower if you wanted because you can play more then one table at a time. Many of the young pros you see on T.V. like Tom Dwan or Durrrr as he is known online started to build their bankroll this way before starting to play cash games. I mostly play sit n gos because they are fast and there is usually 3-4 maniac players that go out very early. The top 3 of 9 get paid if you don’t know and I am very consistent in this type of game. PokerStars has some double or nothing sit n gos that can be beaten fairly easily where when half of the table is eliminated the remaining players get paid double your buy in minus the small tournament fee. Second if you know of any you can play cash games where you live. I don’t live in a state with casinos but I probably know or could get set up with a different game every night. The same thing is going on where you live you just have to find out about the games if you can. I still believe you are better off playing online though from the comfort of your house and you can play at any time of the day. It can be done but keep in mind that anyone can call themselves a poker pro these days and they don’t have to be making any profits to do so. It can be great if you are good enough, make your own hours and be your own boss but their is a saying and it is : Poker is a hard way to make an easy living. Good Luck and Good Skill.
