sports betting spread Archives

I read this story this morning but they haven’t named the official. It would be interesting to find out what games he officiated and who won in those games. They are saying he bet on games that he officiated in and might have worked the point spread in his favor in relation to his betting.

The said the investigation started recently and that it was a current NBA official. If anyone has any real info on this as far as who has been named, that would be great.

As an owner of a racehorse, I have often bet on my horse to win (WIN only). In a game that sponsors and promotes betting, I have been known to share winning tickets with the jockey’s and trainers. It didn’t effect the performance of the horse, only that the jockey would give it that extra effort and thought about what the jockey was hired to do…WIN. So, Pete Rose has a gambling problem, isn’t that really his problem, being a gambler. Is the operative word—betting,..or that Pete Rose bet in a game that doesn’t promote gambling?

Do you agree with the following article by Jim Armstrong…?

Rose All But Slams Hall Door Shut
Betting on Reds Every Night Another Slap to Baseball

By JIM ARMSTRONG
AOL
Sports Commentary

Just when you hoped Pete Rose had disappeared for good, he pops up on a national radio program and attempts yet another stab at the truth behind his gambling addiction.

Eighteen years ago, when he accepted a lifetime ban from the game, Rose contradicted hundreds of pages of evidence compiled by the commissioner’s office and denied he ever bet on baseball.

Then, in 2004, when he was hawking his autobiography, he admitted he bet on games involving the Reds , a team he happened to be managing at the time.

Now Rose claims he bet on the Reds every night. No really, I’m not making this up. Rose told ESPN radio’s Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann that, in a sport that plays 162 games, he bet on the Reds to win every night.

So it’s official then. Rose is even dumber than we thought. And trust me, nobody I know had him penciled in for a Harvard fellowship any time soon.

Why did he bet on the Reds every night?

"I bet on my team to win every night because I love my team," Rose told Patrick and Olbermann. "I believe in my team. I did everything in my power every night to win that game."

He bet on his team every night because he loved his team, believed in his team. Whew! For a while there, I thought it might be because he was a gambling degenerate.

Now that we know why Rose bet on the Reds every night — he loved his players, especially the ones who helped him cover the spread — the issue becomes this: Why would he tell a couple of talk-show hosts about it?

I bet on this website on two games , the Spurs-Suns game, and the Jazz-Rockets Game.

Suns-Spurs: I bet on the Spurs who have -5 spread
Jazz-Rockets: I bet on Jazz who have +2 spread

I am new to sports betting so tell me what you think..and just to make sure, please clarify that this means Spurs need to win by at least 6, and Jazz can either win or lose by 1..and don’t worry, these bets were palced @ centsports.com..so I’m not up to lose my house/first-born with these bets..only about a dime..

This is a way to gamble in blackjack that does not work (limits at tables dont allow it). Hear this out.

You buy in for 500$, and if you have knowledge of sports do bets that pay out -110 or about even (moneylines with NBA). Bet 5$ on a game. if you lose, bet 10 the next game, if you lose bet 20 the next game, then 40, then 80, then 160. then 320. If any of those bets won, youd be up 5$, and have 505$ total.

In BLACKJACK, it is very likely to lose 7 times like this and lose all your money. But in sports betting, the odds of this are hugely unlikely if you have a decent knowledge of sports. Bet on ONE team, or some of the same teams. A team is very likely to cover the spread or over under after 7 times like this.

This has been proven to not work in card games, but for sports betting, is this possible to work???

My uncle and his workbuddies, or my stepdad and the guys in the bar, create these tables where they bet on sports (I think they may have been called spreads too) but they all throw money into this pot and winner takes the winnings. I hear about them all the time at peoples works or whatever. what is the correct name for these, where can i learn about them online, what are the rules and is there anywhere online i can see examples, or have blank ones… etc., etc.?

Obviously I need some sports betting API’s and XML feeds, but I don’t know who will provide me with this. For example, who does Sportsbook and BoDog and other sites use? Im guessing they have created their own, but what about the smaller guys? Please help.

It seems so idiotic. In regards to the Steelers game last night, why should the point spread have to be a focus of controversy? Why should we be worried about whether the refs had some influence on the game?

You are sad if you bet on this, and should probably get help.

Don’t get all huffy sabes99, if he was betting on the games - it is also a gambling question.

Perhaps you should have read the story better.

Good Lord

Like just picking a team to win, without the spread taking affect? I know you can do that in most of the other sports (baseball, hockey…)

3 Team Parlay #
Basketball - NBA Lines (Game) Point Spread
(501) Utah Jazz +5 Tue@7:05p
Competitor:(502) Philadelphia 76ers

Basketball - NBA Lines (Game) Point Spread

Basketball - NBA Lines (Game) Point Spread
(507) Atlanta Hawks +4 (-120) Tue@8:35p

I am using a betting site call betUS.com and it allows you to bet on pretty much every sport you can think of. I am new to all this so in addition to just betting on who wins or loses a game there is a point spread bet as well. Here is an example for an NBA basketball game.

Point Spread for Golden State Warriors pk -110
Point Spread for New Jersey Netspk -110

Those are the 2 options, can someone explain what it means better, I read up on point spreads on wikipedia and it basicly says that for example if there is a 5 point point spread then the underdog team’s score would be there score plus 5 points on it and the better teams score would be there score minus 5 points or something like that, well this is confusing as you can see for my example above, both teams have PK -110

I am trying to understand some of the basic terminology and concepts of odds when it comes to pro sports teams - such as NFL matchups. My uncle used to say: "I’ll give you the Giants in 10". Also: over/under, spread, and ATS. What do these mean?

Lets say I picked Toront +1 and they win instead of loose by 1. do i get the win?

A NFL player (Micheal Vick) may of been betting on dogs that fight. A NBA ref may of fixed the point spread of games while a pro westler killed his wife, disabled son, and himself.

I am thinking about placing a bet on a couple of the NFL games today (on Bodog) and I was wondering a few things: If you win the bet no matter what, do you get your wager back PLUS the winnings? Like if I bet on the Patriots to win over the Saints monday night with a +3 point spread it says I am risking to win {content}.71…so if I win this bet do I walk away with .71 or {content}.71?? (**Note the bet is just an example)

I posted on a site to bet forum money(no its not real money don’t worry its not illegal gambling) and I’m just wondering how my spread/odds are looking. Can someone check it out and let me know if I’m on the right track or not?

Thanks for your help.

is there a sports action game fof football in vancouver, washington. Or some type of the same thing where you bet on the spreads?

Tim Donaghy is reportedly about to drop the dime on several other referees, players and even coaches.
Thing is, I can’t help but think this thing could even spread to other sports.
What do y’all think?

can someone explain to me how the spread works

say the celtics are 8 point favorites over the heat and i bet on the celtics

what happens when the celtics win by 8 or more?
win by 7 or less?

what happens when the heat win by 8 or more?
win by 7 or less?

What does it mean when a team is +20 or -20 on a spread for sports betting? I want to bet on this game but don’t fully understand it. Does the +20 team have to win by 20 or more points for me to win if I choose them? If I choose the -20 team does that mean if the team loses by less then 20 I win? What does it all mean?

I know some sites allow u to bet, but when u want to cash out they won’t send you a check. I’m looking to see if anyone has a legit site for gambling on sports games. Thanks

First of all…. NO CREDIT CARDS or ANYTHING REQUIRED…

Just sports Knowledge!!!!

http://www.centsports.com/?opcode=159134

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It’s simple … when you first sign up for CentSports, we give you ten cents ({content}.10) play money to bet with. You can use this to bet on almost any major college or professional sporting event (MLB, NBA and NFL games, etc.). Anything you win you keep and can use to place more bets, accumulating money as you go.

You can cash out whenever you want (as soon as you have a balance of over .00 play money) … we’re actually gracious enough to send you a check for your play-money account balance … just straight up, dollar for dollar.

We’ve tried to replicate what you can do at real sports betting sites … i.e., you can make standard line-type bets such as over/under, point-spread, and moneyline bets. In fact, we get our lines straight from Vegas … any bet you make on CentSports could be made with any sports bookie in Vegas for the same odds if you were betting for real money.

Overall, the site makes more from advertising than people cash out … though one of our goals in creating the site was to make sure that as much of the site’s advertising revenue goes back to CentSports user as possible (after all, they’re the ones who earned it by viewing ads in the first place!).

WHAT IF I LOSE ALL MY MONEY?

Then we give you another 10 cents play-money for free so that you can keep on betting. Your balance can never fall below 10 cents … you’ll always have at least something to keep making bets with.

I am just beginning to learn sports betting and am wondering how to analyze this. If 98% of people are betting on one side of the spread, but for less total money than the other 2%, which side is favored?

I’ve gotten kind of addicted to Centsports, and I’m trying to figure out the most mathematically advantageous system. I usually bet on baseball, as that’s the sport I know the most about. I don’t bet on point spreads, only straight money lines. My question is whether it’s better to bet on multiple teams that you think are likely to win, and thus spread the risk out. The alternative is to pick one game you think is a sure thing, and put your entire bankroll on that one bet. Suppose you have .00 to gamble with. Would you bet 1.00 on 5 different games, or 5.00 on one game? If you pick 5 games you’re more likely to lose at least one of them, and thus your payoff is lower. So is your risk. The one big bet pays off more (probably), but if you lose you’re busted. Can anybody give me a serious rationale for one system over the other?

And please, don’t just badmouth Centsports in your answer. I’m not asking you to sign up, I just want to hear your thoughts on various systems.
